At Davis, Upton, Palumbo & Dougherty, LLC, we strive to be a positive influence in our homes, the workplace, and our community by sharing our time, expertise and resources. As a firm, we participate in and support many local Calvert County and Southern Maryland charity events and encourage and assist our staff and their families in their individual volunteer efforts as well.
Our attorneys are actively involved in the community through their service to the Calvert County Economic Development Commission, the Young Professionals Network, the Calvert County Commission for Women, the Calvert Interfaith Council, and various other organizations. Several members of the firm hold an active seat on the Board of Directors for the College of Southern Maryland Foundation, Project Echo, and the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce. We present seminars on various legal topics throughout Southern Maryland. We offer Estate Planning seminars at Calvert Pines Senior Center and Asbury ~Solomons. We sponsor and host a monthly "Legal Lunch Seminar" at the firm that addresses legal issues and topics of special interest and concern to business owners.
We ardently support Calvert County schools by donating to reading programs, basket bingos and other special events and fund raisers, offering legal assistance to the high schools' Mock Trial programs, and purchasing advertising banners for many of the athletic fields. In the spring of 2005, we partnered with the county in sponsoring the main score board for the opening of Huntingtown High School. We often open our doors to those pursing a career in the legal field by offering internships to college students, and hosting high school students for "a day at the firm" experience.
Mark and Wanda Davis recently ran for and won the honor of being named King and Queen of the 2008 United Way Mardi Gras celebration. In this effort, they raised thousands of dollars through the generous donations of many of our loyal clients.
We are proud to say that along with regular support to the United Way of Calvert County, our staff volunteers their time and service to the local community through the coaching of sports teams, leadership of scout troops and church groups, and their active support of one another in such events as Relay for Life, the Susan G. Coleman Breast Cancer Walk, the Alzheimer's Memory Walk, and the Robbie Miles Memorial 5K Hospice Run.
In addition, we share our time and financial resources for the progress of such organizations as Calvert Memorial Hospital, The National Children's Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, The American Heart Association, Maryland Special Olympics, The Calverton School, Calvert County Waterman's Association, Calvert Hospice, the College of Southern Maryland Fine Arts Center, and Anne Marie Gardens, to name a few.
It has become a tradition at our annual Christmas Party to invite our guests to join us in making a charitable donation as well. Through this effort over the years, we have provided the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund, and the United Way of Calvert County with generous donations from our families, friends, clients and business associates.
